Motorcycle Trip Preparation: Alaska

The Milepost” is published each spring and contains the latest information for the variety of routes to Alaska from Montana, Idaho and Washington.  It is an excellent guide and lists out details for every segment of each route.  I originally got the 2009 version when I was first planning my trip, which got postponed due to work conflicts.  I am working my way through the 2011 version and have the 2012 version on order.

A PDF version is available for free download for purchasers of the book – I will bring that with me on the bike so I can do additional research enroute.

The current plan is to identify campsites approximately 250-300 miles apart on the Cassiar Highway and Alcan.  I will have camping gear but expect to eat out rather than carry food, to avoid issues with bears.

I have added Touratech panniers to the Ducati and will add a topbox and tank bag shortly.  I have Touratech radiator and oil cooler guards that I will be adding to the bike and will see if a headlight guard is available.  I will be bolting on engine guards soon.
